NEPALESE YOUTH FOR CLIMATE ACTION PRESENTS
PROVINCIAL YOUTH CONSULTATION ON NDC & SAGARMATHA SAMBAAD
Thursday, March 5, 2020
Mahendra Morang Campus, Samikshylaya Hall, Roadcess Chowk, Biratnagar
Nationally Determined Contributions are the heart of the Paris Agreement and the achievement of these long term goals. Nepal had published first NDCs in 2016 and is going to revise NDCs by 2020.
It is important that the next iteration of NDCs prioritise youth and youth focused initiatives, and are in line with1.5 degrees. Nepal is also hosting Sagarmatha Sambaad which is scheduled to be held from 2-4 April. Discussions will dwell upon the organic link between mountains, oceans and many other ecosystems. It is important that countries take inputs from stakeholders, youth and civil society to contribute to the design of the updated NDC and successful completion of Global Sambaad.
As, Youth are the one who implement the NDC prepared today and they have the power to move this transformation with analysis and interpretation of the climate negotiations to date. So, creating space for youth both in NDCs and nationally anticipated Sagarmatha Sambaas will lead to make the voice louder, to implement the words committed by leaders into Action.
The Youth led Climate Consultation seeks to capacitate youth in local and provincial level on climate change science, NDCs and also prepare them for youth leadership for climate action plan like NDC.
